Freely – Paid Social Ads
The Challenge
Freely, the new free TV streaming service from BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5, was launching with a bold identity and a cheeky character—Freemoji—but lacking awareness. They were expanding channel partnerships across smart TV makers and needed social ads to build audience recognition and show off their growing network.
The brief: design and animate a suite of paid social spots to elevate brand visibility and spotlight Freely’s expanding partner ecosystem as the service scaled.
Role - Senior Motion Graphics Designer & Creative
I teamed up with editors and producers at RATCHET to craft tailored narrative arcs for each social ad. I led the creative on the Summer of Sports campaign, using full animation built around Freely’s branded assets and Freemojis to create dynamic, engaging spots.
The Execution
I developed dynamic animated stories that positioned Freely as fun, intuitive, and accessible.
Each ad was designed to feel bright, optimistic and visually uncluttered—mirroring Freely’s clean policy and bold visual identity. Assets included:
Short vertical and horizontal spot animations
Freemoji-led sequences
Channel‑partner highlights to reinforce partnerships and distribution footprint
The Outcome
These social ads generated strong traction, helping Freely punch through in a competitive streaming market. They boosted brand recognition and brought personality and clarity to Freely’s offer—delivered with visual energy and a conversational tone that matched the brand’s DNA.
The result? A bright, colourful and optimistic campaign that helped Freely stand out—and stand tall.
